Stephen Lewis

Formerly the Special Envoy to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Stephen Lewis is the chair of the board of the Stephen Lewis Foundation in Canada. Mr. Lewis is a Professor in Global Health, Faculty of Social Sciences at McMasterUniversity in Hamilton, Ontario. He is also co-Director of AIDS-Free World, a new international AIDS advocacy organization, based in the United States.

Mr. Lewis holds 28 honorary degrees from Canadian universities and is a Companion of the Order of Canada. In 2006, his best-selling book, Race Against Time won the Canadian Booksellers Association’s Libris Award for non-fiction book of the year and Mr. Lewis was named the CBA’s Author of the Year for 2005.

Shirley Douglas

Shirley Douglas was born to Irma and Tommy Douglas in 1934 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. It was there that Shirley witnessed the birth of Hospitalization and Medicare and has since been determined that Canadians not lose what was so ferociously fought for. Shirley is also actively involved with the Canadian Health Coalition and is the Chair of the Toronto Health Coalition.

Shirley was the recipient of the 2000 Gemini Award for Best Featured Actress in a Drama for the film Shadow Lake and was recently seen in the Vagina Monologues in Toronto. Shirley is an Officer of the Order of Canada and was inducted to Canada’s walk of fame in June 2004. Shirley is now the recipient of a Doctor of Humanities Degree from the University of Windsor in June 2005.
