Day Activities

Friendly Visiting and Security Checks

Friendly-visiting is a community support service designed to contact clients on a regular basis to check on their health, safety and social well-being.  Clients of friendly visiting typically include individuals who feel socially isolated or have a medical condition that benefits from additional emotional support.

Gentle Exercise Programs

Exercise classes aim to improve strength, balance and mobility of seniors, maintaining their overall functional performance to prevent injury and falls. Classes are led by trained fitness instructors.

Rides and Transportation

Transportation services provide door-to-door assisted rides to frail seniors and adults with disabilities. Typically these rides are used for medical appointments, but may also be utilized for day programs, social outings and for personal outings, such as grocery shopping, banking and other errands. Transportation is provided by agency staff or volunteers using private cars, agency vehicles, public transportation or assisting the person to walk to the destination.

Adult Day Services

Adult day services offer a variety of social, recreational and therapeutic activities in a group setting for frail seniors, individuals with Alzheimer’s and other progressive cognitive disorders or dementias of aging and adults with physical or cognitive impairment.  Adult day programs allow participants to socialize with their peers to assist in achieving and maintaining their maximum level of functioning, to prevent premature and inappropriate institutionalization and to provide respite and support for family caregivers who provide day-to-day care.  Programs are offered in a safe environment with qualified staff.

Components of the service include planned social, recreational and physical activities, meals, transportation (if required), personal support/attendant care and minor health care (e.g. monitoring medication).

Respite (in home)

Respite care provides in-home, non-medical, scheduled short-term relief, companionship and assistance with daily living for families, guardians or regular caregivers.
