PSWs are skilled members of the health care team, crucial to the success of home and community care and other sectors. We are very pleased to see the government take action to strengthen this workforce. We look forward to supporting the province as they move forward, and sharing our expertise with the Michener Institute.
A registry is one of a number of reforms needed to ensure appropriate oversight for the workforce, such as developing standards of practice and sector-wide PSW competencies. As the population ages and grows, personal support workers will continue to be in high demand. Therefore, a strategy for the long-term sustainability of the workforce, including recruitment, retention and training, will also be crucial. We appreciate the provincial government's ongoing attention to these issues, and will continue to actively participate in this very important work.
