THROUGH OTHER EYES

SENIORS AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ARE AN IMPORTANT MARKET.

  • Seniors are the fastest growing segment of the population. Adults over 65 already make up 12 percent of the population. By 2010, one in four Canadians will be a senior.
  • Seniors have an increasingly large amount of disposable income. In one year alone, expenditures by senior households topped $61 billion.
  • Nearly 40 percent of seniors donate to charity. Over 20 percent of seniors do volunteer work.
  • Seventeen percent of Canada's population have a disability.

UNDERSTANDING THEIR NEEDS IS CRITICAL.

Nearly half of all Canadians over 65 have a disability that affects their eyesight, hearing, mobility or sense of touch. That means people with disabilities can have great difficulty performing the tasks most of us do effortlessly. Establishing meaninful relationships with seniors and people with disabilities requires that both non-profit and public sector organizations respond to and accomodate their special needs.

THROUGH OTHER EYES CAN HELP.

Accomodating special needs is a function of providing accessible products, quality services, and the right volunteer opportunities. That's where Through Other Eyes comes in. Through Other Eyes is a two-hour customized workshop that enables management, employees, students and volunteers to directly experience and better understand the special needs and challenges of seniors and people with disabilities.

THE BENEFIT IS CLEAR.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to identify changes necessary for accomodating seniors and people with disabilities. The results will be better products, services, policies and programs; improved customer service and physical environments; and the right messages. Through Other Eyes makes sense - for your customers and for society.

Through Other Eyes is administered by the Ontario Community Support Association in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health.
