VOLUNTEERS

Become a vital link in your community - volunteer! You can learn new skills, gain new insights and help someone maintain their independence longer. There a number of volunteer options available in your community. You might choose from the following:

Meals on Wheels - you can help deliver meals and provide a vital security check for isolated people in your community. Both drivers and runners are needed.

Friendly Visiting - you can choose to become a volunteer visitor and be matched with an older person. You will spend a couple of hours each week visiting, in person or on the phone, or going on small outings for shopping or lunch. Here's what one volunteer visitor, Sherry, said,

"volunteering really is a two way win-win thing. Listening and learning from someone who has lived such a long, full life has been very rewarding for me. And she is so appreciative of every little thing we do together. I am sure even the busiest of people can find an hour or two a week. And I know they'd be enriched by it."

Transportation - If you have a car, people in your community would be grateful for your help to get to medical appointments, the bank or the shopping mall. Volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage.

And More - you may choose to help on a committee, or in the office. Perhaps you'd like to run for the Board of Directors. You may have a special talent you'd like to share such as music or crafts. There are many opportunities for you to choose.

Of course, training is provided for all volunteers so that you will feel comfortable with your new volunteer role.

To volunteer, use our Care Finder to get the number of your local community support agency. They will be happy to find a job that fits your time, skills and interests.
